Sometimes we have habits that occur daily with us even taking time to think our day out. We are not born with habits as some are told. We adapt to them over the years based on factors such as culture, environment, interactions with others performing them on a regular basis, people we have become familiar with that are doing the actions, repetitive teachings given during our youth, and many other ways.
We have our original roots in the beginning and pick up more routes along the way. Normally 90% of what we do is governed by habits. Only 10% is done with a conscious effort.
Four common things that contribute to habits and reasons for habits to exist include repetition of the behavior, the environment that support the habit, the familiar setting for the habit to exist, and the culture that supports the habit.
Jesus had a habit or custom of going into the temple, opening the Holy Bible, and reading it on the Sabbath Day according to Luke 4:14-16. This was a good habit that was formed from His youth.
Paul also had a habit or mannerism on the Sabbath to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ as it is written in Acts 17:1-2. This also was a positive habit.
Daniel prayed three (3) times a day in the open facing Jerusalem. This habit protected him in the lion's den.  This habit was formed from his youth and performed regularly with his support group of friends having the same values and teachings.
King Saul, on the other hand, had a bad habit of seeking man (the Prophet Samuel) for a solution instead of God. He also justified himself repetitively. He held onto the customs of his hometown and found it difficult to circumcise his heart to ways of God. Could this have been because of the habit of having a relationship with a man more than God?
Habits can be adapted to based on someone's emotional whelms toward something or another.  They are formed over a period of time.
Holding on to old traditions and cultures of our forefathers and their fore-forefathers is what enslaved the mindsets of individuals. Out of fear many continue to follow the old nature that formed negative customs out of fear of being mocked or challenged for truly following Jesus Christ fully.

Let’s take time to identify habits that are hindering our relationship with God that is delay us from having an intimate connection with Him. Your whole body is made up of senses that can trigger the soul in which is the seat of your thoughts, desires, and emotions. This can also cause you to act things out in your inner spirit. The key to overcoming the cycle of habits is to understand what is triggering your outer gates (eyes, nose, mouth, ears, and what you feel) so that you can bring them into the subjection of the Holy Ghost in faith.
